Smart Buildings for Designers, Consultants & Architects
The design of smart buildings intersects with green buildings where resource-efficient models of construction include specific features, such as sustainable materials, renewable resources, living roof systems, improved acoustic, and clean indoor air quality. When designing a smart building, green aspects can include concepts such as net zero, which strives to balance resource usage and production to reduce environmental impact.

Smart Environments unlock technologies which align with design concepts and corporate aspirations.
Our teams deliver this via a single pane of glass methodology, so that the approach of legacy siloed system is now a thing of the past, empowering building stakeholders to focus on proactive management of their spaces and delivering tangible improvements to energy spend and operational budgets.
A holistic vendor agnostic approach frees clients from single OEMS and via our intelligent building platform, Zeus, we deliver standardised reporting and powerful analytics, allowing deep dives into how your space are working.

Occupancy monitoring

Smart lighting
- Integrated presence detection sensors can identify and trigger the control of lighting and can mimic the natural light progression of daylight. Brighter lights after lunch may be used to help workers focus, and soft lights in health care environments can help patients relax. An intelligent building system will also shut off lights, and learn when occupants have left spaces.
- By integrating systems such as KNX & Dali2, we can schedule and automate lighting and emergency tests, then report on faults/failures with issues being directly escalated through workflow or email systems.
Predictive, AI led Maintenance
- Leveraging building data against machine learning, operation teams can now see indicators of potential problems and take corrective action before systems fail. Functional threshold testing (FTT) allows for real-time testing and continuous commissioning, providing detailed reporting data, pinpointing the specific part of a device which is not functioning properly.
- Empower building engineers to keep HVAC System optimised at all times.
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
The 2020 pandemic has highlighted the importance of air quality, and as organisations develop long term estate strategies this is a key area of focus.
At Smart Environments, we are increasingly equipping buildings with wireless sensors to monitor air quality such as CO2 levels and harmful airborne small particles. The data these IOT sensors gather, allow for automated levels of ventilation, where adjustment as needed.
We also, in areas of high pollution, provide monitoring of fresh outdoor air which enters via the air handling equipment. Our dashboards will then alert and escalate to operational teams, when filters need replacing, or turn off the system if the outside air quality becomes unacceptable.
Get in TouchOccupancy monitoring
Additional requirements for smart monitoring, including the ability monitor the number of occupants in a building. While in the pre- pandemic times, this was necessary for distancing and restrictions, it now has an integral role in managing comfort levels and energy use.
A true smart building gives more control to all stakeholders, enabling them to create a bespoke environment for comfort conditions. People will more closely interact with a building by adjusting everything to their precise needs, from zone temperature, sound levels, desk and meeting room spaces, and specific lighting.
Whole floors and zones can also be adjusted depending on predicted occupancy, desk bookings and required use, helping to manage all of the space optimally. This information can further assist on a strategic level, by providing occupancy vs Sq ft insights, to better understand if too much or little building space is being utilised.
